A PLACE IN THE VILLAGE
Jacques MORIAU & Tatiana de PERLINGHI
2008 53' Beta digit
The four-seasons chronicle of a tiny belgian village, where farmers and newcomers live together between tradition and ecology. As anywhere, life is a daily quest to work, mobility and happiness, while farming declines, city suburbs spread so as futuristic projects. Only there, « new rurals » work together to materialize values inspired by ecology: windmills and houses made of wood, earth and straw are builded in community, and traditional celebrations are revived …

A SCHOOL IN A HOST COUNTRY
Roger BEECKMANS
2009 52' 16 mm

AFTER US, ONLY THE SCORCHED EARTH REMAINS
Delphine FEDEROFF
2014 80' vidéo
In April 1986, the humankind is confronted with one of the greatest ecological disasters in History: a nuclear explosion of unparalleled magnitude. Exclusion zones are set up to accommodate the disaster survivors. The village of Dytiatky and its inhabitants refuse to integrate into an exclusion zone and continue to live on their land, with their traditions and histories. There are premature deaths among those displaced and a saving continuity for the Samossiols, those who “resist/return.” After 25 years, what does this community think about its journey? And what do their grandchildren think? What reasons motivated the disaster victims to fee or to stay? It is in the village of Dytiatky, bordering the “Zone” with those who “return”, that we must ask ourselves…

ANGEL PASSES BY (AN)
Marie ANDRE
1985 42' vidéo
Anita, the prostitute, stands in the center of this tornado, of this ballet. She is the soul and the break of it. She is the latest character in this portrait gallery in which, since the beginning, Marie André has drawn up and erased silhouettes and glances with a still subtler asserted mastership. A prostitute loves her pimp with passion. The man takes advantage of her youth and her beauty with the rough demand of the male who feels and knows that their link originates from a sado-masochistic relationship in this infernal circle where sex and money lead to no other issue than silence and death. This universal type of story plays on social as well as individual relationships. The setting of the action, the « Veemarkt » quarter in Antwerp, next to the harbour, corresponds to this almost archetypal stage where we meet characters strongly forged with our pulsions of fusion and rupture : the sailors and the whores.

EVELYNE AXELL, LA VENUS AUX PLASTIQUES
Françoise LEVIE
2013 73' Beta digit

Yves CANTRAINE
2006 93' vidéo
Beginning 2005, the huge Cité administrative de l’Etat (an administrative Center built in the heart of Brussels in the wake of the 1958 World Exhibition) was abandoned by its last « inhabitants » as it had been sold to a private investor. The site had been a glorious symbol of the Providential State and of Centralized Government. Its history may reflect that of Belgium and of the State. The Cité had been conceived as a city in the heart of a city. The idea was to invent a new modern administration, as transparent and open to the public as its elegant International Style façades. But how did people work in such a utopian project, in such architectural forms? End 2004, beginning 2005, just before the end of the story, a number of French- end Dutch-speaking civil workers answer these questions and tell us their feelings, impressions and memories. These voices and words progressively create a music that links human faces and a superhuman architecture. And once the place has been left, as time goes by, their memories go on haunting the empty corridors and offices. This project has received the SCAM’s « Brouillon d’un rêve » award.

IN ALBANIA
Loredana BIANCONI
2009 60' vidéo
« Go and see what we left behind... » With these words in mind, a filmmaker journeys into a discovery of an almost abandoned and little known country: Albania. Her film is an impressionist journey, a moving tale cast in footprints, vivid memories and free thinking narration that takes an overview of the past sixty years of the country. The communist dictatorship seems to be jumbled up with the neo-liberal democracy which dominates every detail of daily life, the lost beauty of the landscapes and the limitless stories of emigration. Little by little, developing over various appearances, the film unveils a tormented country whose inhabitants are living more and more outward looking lives as they struggle to retain a sense of belonging in their own homeland.

If I wanted to help my son, I also had to take care of myself". In case of loss of pressure, air hostesses advise parents to put their own oxygen mask on first, then that of their children.

One thing is certain: fate is like all the criminals that I listen to today for the Belgian federal police. With a little willpower, there’s always a way to dodge its tricks. The person who taught me that is a close and loyal childhood friend. That friend is literature. Without her, I probably wouldn’t be what I am now, here, among you.

Mathieu Labaye
2008 9' 35 mm
"I think that, when moving, you take over your own life. When you're free to come and go, to have gestures of... love, tenderness, anger, no matter. So when you are deprived of the ability to move, as I am, as many others are... in order to survive you need to reinvent movement. What goes on in my mind is not just intellectual. It's a way of re-creating an inner space which sets me free" Benoît Labaye Orgesticulanismus‚is an animation short delivering a very important message about exclusion due to disability. The film celebrates disability by recognizing the conception of inner space and strength that allow people who are physically challenged to rise above normality. The use of repetitious reinvented moves with the voice over and sound design create an uncomfortable and yet positive atmosphere for the audience.

PANDA FARNANA
Françoise LEVIE
2010 60' Beta digit

Second walk (1996) : "40 years, later the river has continued its historic and legendary course. The town has given itself a face lift, sometimes delightfull, sometimes offensive"

THE MAN OF SAND - THE FILMS OF THIERRY MICHEL
José-Luis PENAFUERTE

THREE DAYS IN AUGUST 1914 - THE WALLS OF DINANT
André DARTEVELLE
2014 104' 16 mm
